The Artisan Archive
A Repository for the Arts of Making
The Artisan Archive Project is a long-term, interdisciplinary initiative aimed at preserving, researching and promoting craft knowledge and partisanship.
The Artisan Archive is envisioned as both a repository and a research centre. As a repository, it collects, curates, and digitizes tangible and intangible heritage related to artisan practices, including tools, techniques, oral histories, process documentation, finished works, and the materials that define them. By combining traditional archival methods and digital technologies, it is the goal of the Archive to ensure that these resources remain accessible to future generations and researchers. As a research centre, it fosters interdisciplinary scholarship, promoting collaborations between artisans, academics, designers, and historians to explore the relationship between the ways of making and the forms of knowing present in traditional and contemporary skilled practices.
